Ryanair's new domestic and international routes at Modlin Airport - Warsaw-Modlin car hire
Car hire Modlin Airport - best car rental deals in Poland
The Irish low cost carrier Ryanair has announced opening two domestic routes at Warsaw-Modlin Airport in Poland.
From March 2014 daily connections from Modlin will be available to Gdansk and Wroclaw and later on, in September, also to other Polish cities.
Ryanair’s low fare offer will surely attract a significant number of customers and increase the competition on the market of domestic flights to and from Warsaw dominated, so far, by the Polish flag carrier, LOT.

At the moment low-cost flights to Modlin Airport, located 25 miles north of Warsaw, are available to: Barcelona, Bari, Beauvais, Bergamo, Bologna, Bristol, Chania (seasonal), Charleroi, Cork, Dublin, Nottingham/East Midlands, Eindhoven, Hahn, Liverpool, London-Stansted, Manchester, Marseille, Oslo-Rygge, Palma de Mallorca, Pisa, Prestwick, Rome-Ciampino, Stockholm-Skavsta, Trapani and Weeze.
Routes from Modlin Airport to Alicante and Thessaloniki will be added to Ryanair’s summer schedule in 2014.
Modlin - new base for Ryanair?
In late 2013, Ryanair is the only airline operating at Modlin Airport.
Inaugurated in 2012, the airport struggled with a series of technical problems, which cumulated in its closing for the runway repair, only few months of activity.
The two airlines to fly from Warsaw-Modlin at the time, Ryanair and Wizzair, moved their operations to the main airport of the Polish capital, Warsaw-Chopin.
While the Hungarian carrier Wizzair opted for remaining at Warsaw-Chopin Airport, situated much closer to the city centre (approx. 6 miles), Ryanair returned to Modlin on 30 September 2013 with new routes and ambitious plans for the airport.
Modlin-Warsaw is considered to be a strategic location in Central Europe and stands a chance to become the base for a part of 175 aircrafts to be purchased from Boeing by the Irish carrier in the nearest future. With the constantly developing network of international and domestic routes, Ryanair estimates the number of passengers during 2014 at Modlin Airport at 1.5 million.
Those plans depend greatly on the airport’s readiness to assume the function of the next Ryanair’s base. Recently the Instrumental Landing System (ILS) of the I category has been installed at the airport. The ILS provides guidance in the conditions of reduced visibility, as the past showed, much needed during the periods of bad weather in Modlin in autumn and winter season.
The airport’s terminal has been upgraded with a children play area and all the airport services, including car hire, have returned to normal functioning.
