Rynair had transferred all of its operations to the main airport of the Polish capital, Warsaw-Chopin (WAW), in December 2012, after Modlin Airport had been closed for safety reasons - due to cracking surface of the asphalt runway.

Since the completion of the runway repair was postponed several times, in July 2013, Ryanair declared it would remain at Warsaw-Chopin throughout the whole summer season for tourism, until October 26. However, the satisfying results of repair works in Modlin and the positive opinion of the Polish aviation authorities speeded up the airline’s come back of to Modlin.

Wizzair remains in Warsaw-Chopin Airport
Wizzair, another low-cost carrier operating at Modlin in the early days of the airport, had taken the decision to move all of its flights to Warsaw-Chopin even before Modlin Airport was closed.

The reason for that was the airline’s discontentment with the lack of Instrument Landing System (ILS) allowing landing in difficult weather conditions, which caused major disruption in Wizzair’s operations in Modlin.

In the summer 2013, Wizzair expressed the intention of remaining at Warsaw-Chopin airport permanently. In other words Wizzair is not planning to return to the reopened low cost Warsaw Modlin Airport.
