Hertz expands Firefly brand in the US - a guide to low-cost car rental in the United States
The giant of the car rental segment, Hertz, announced introducing its discount brand, Firefly into the U.S. market.
Below you can see the logo of the new low-cost car hire company owned by Hertz:
Firefly low cost car rental - cheap car hire brand from Hertz
The Firefly brand was first launched in Europe in March 2013, reaching by the end of that year the number of 40 car rental stations distributed between Spain, Portugal, UK, Germany, France, Switzerland and Italy with 18 car hire locations.
In general, Firefly offices are present in major tourist destinations within each country. In some locations, by the end of 2013 Firefly offices were still branded as Advantage Rent A Car.
In Lisbon Airport, Firefly car rental counters are located in the corridor next to the arrivals hall.
Firefly car rental to replace Advantage Rent A Car
By creating the new brand, Hertz regains its presence at the low-cost car rental market, lost with the divesting the Advantage Rent A Car, a condition imposed by the US authorities for Hertz to acquire Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group in 2009.
By the end of 2013 Firefly car rental stations were opened in a number of destinations in the U.S.
Firefly budget car hire product targets the group of customers defined by Hertz as ‘price-aware leisure travellers’.
As usual, the cost of car hire from Hertz’s ‘cheap’ brand is, however, relative. To be sure that you are getting the best deal possible, do compare rates from all the major car hire providers at the destination of your choice..
