Hertz car hire - "Road Trip by Hertz" concept in San Diego Airport, Shanghai Airport, Melbourne (Australia) and Marble Arch in London

Hertz Corporation, one of the largest U.S. car hire companies, is in the process of redefining car rental experience with a revolutionary concept for rental stations named Road Trip by Hertz.

So far, Road Trip facilities are available for Hertz’s customers in San Diego Airport - SAN, Shanghai Airport - PVG and city stations of Marble Arch in London and in Melbourne (Hertz HQ).

Hertz - rapid development after years of stagnation
In the past Hertz used to be the world’s largest car hire supplier. The company’s undisputable domination in the rent-a-car sector, much envied by the competition, prompted one of the "eternal" rivals of Hertz,  to come up in 1960s with the slogan Avis - We Try Harder.

In many countries, especially in Europe, Avis overtook Hertz in number of car rental stations already in the 1980s and 1990s. In the U.S., Hertz Car Hire continued to be the largest car hire company (in terms of the number of car rental stations),  until Enterprise took over the title.

In 2009, Hertz Car Hire introduced a new logo, resembling the style of the old one, with black letters spelling ‘Hertz’ on a yellow background, but without the former ‘shadow’.  In the years to come the new logo replaced the old one in the approximately 8000 Hertz rental station worldwide.

Following the tendencies in the car hire sector, Hertz had earlier entered the Car Sharing industry. In late 2008, Hertz car sharing service was launched in New York, Paris and London, under the name of Connect by Hertz, later being rebranded to Hertz 24/7.

New experience with Hertz Car Hire - Road Trip by Hertz
As of autumn 2013, Hertz offers its customers new and welcoming facilities known as Road Trip by Hertz.

Selected Hertz rental stations are equipped with self-service checkout of cars intended to shorten the queuing time. In the reception area, iPad stations have been set up for the customers to research any useful travel information or for children to keep themselves entertained by games. New Road Trip by Hertz car hire stations offer also a possibility to recharge the family’s electronics.

In order to enhance the travel experience, a range of services available at the new Hertz rental stations has been extended far beyond a simple pick-up or delivery of a hire car. New Hertz rental stations boast many useful features, such as printing, copying and mailing with direct access to FedEx services.

In the newest Hertz facilities there is also a retail area with travel supplies: snacks, drinks, maps, chargers, or other items needed by business or leisure travelers.

The customer service in the redesigned Hertz rental stations consists of an easy to operate, intuitive self-checkout system, backed up by a video link to a Hertz employee, ready to help the customer with any difficulties and answer queries.

When returning the hire car at a new Hertz station, the customers are still attended by a Hertz employee in person.

Sports cars and luxury cars for hire from Hertz US
A part of the Road Trip by Hertz concept is a better display of the rental fleet. Sports and luxury cars, lined up in front of the new Hertz rental stations in an eye-catching manner, boost interest in premium vehicle rental. In most places, the displayed models can actually be hired, but are not exactly cheap and require a credit card with a high limit.

Amongst the most ‘exciting’ makes and models on show in the new Hertz stations in the U.S. are: Porsche Cayman, Porsche 911, Porsche Panamera and Chevrolet Corvette.
