Easyjet flying to Iceland from the UK by March 2012

UK low fares operator easyJet has announced that from 27 March 2012 it will offer 3 weekly flights to Keflavik International Airport from London Luton Airport in the UK. Already from tomorrow morning cheap return tickets are on sale from as little as £59 incl. taxes.

In easyJet’s press statement their UK Director, Paul Simmons, explained that he is excited that, for the first time easyJet is able to offer cheap flights to Iceland.

However, in the statement Keflavik International airport is referred to as being located in Reykjavik, which is of course incorrect.

Reykjavik has got an airport in its own right (RKV), which is not to be confused with Keflavik International Airport (KEF), where easyJet will be operating from.

For those considering cheap car hire in Iceland already now, please make sure to book your car hire collection at KEF (Keflavik) and not RKV (Reykjavik) unless you wish to travel an hour to Reykjavik centre by coach.

Cheap car hire in Keflavik Airport is available from 27th March for less than £200 for a week in the mini class.

Which car is recommended to hire in Iceland?
It's important to remember that Iceland is still partially covered by snow in March, so if you anticipate driving in rural areas where most attractions in Iceland are found, a 4x4 might be worth considering. Except for the Icelandic glaciers most snow will have completely meltet betwen May and August.

Renting a 4x4 in Keflavik such as Toyota RAV is around £400 for a week of car hire in Iceland.
