Europcar Azores – first Europcar rental station opens in Ponta Delgada (São Miguel Island)

One of the international liders of the rent-a-car market, Europcar, has extended its network of rental stations to the Portuguese archipelago of the Azores on the Atlantic Ocean. The car rental company, present in continental Portugal since 1985, opened its first office on San Miguel Island.

The characteristic green logo can be seen now in the company’s new premises located at the service station on Ponta Delgada ring road (locally referred to as 2a Circular), in Lagoa-Ponta Delgada direction. The location of the rental stations allow easy access both from Ponta Delgada city centre and from the airport.

Europcar office in Ponta Delgada is open 7 days a week, between 7am and midnight.

The car rental company’s offer in Azores is directed to the leisure tourism sector (tourism has been steadily growing on Sao Miguel Island for several years now), as well as to corporate clients and tourist operators.

According to Fernando Fagulha, the chief of Sales and Marketing of Europcar Portugal, the choice of Ponta Delgada for the location of the first Europcar office in the Azores, reflects the growing interest in Sao Miguel as a tourist destination and the constantly widening network of direct flights to Ponta Delgada Airport – PDL.

The airport, the larges in the Azores is currently served by five airlines: SATA (with its two subdivisions SATA Açores and SATA International), TAP Portugal, Air Berlin, Easyjet and Ryanair. Apart from the Portuguese domestic routes available at Ponta Delgada Airport, a variety of international destinations is served, amongst them: Madrid, Paris, Barcelona, London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Stockholm, as well as Boston and Oakland in the USA and Toronto in Canada.
