Very popular car for hire in Canada: Ford Escape SUV (same as Ford Kuga in Europe)
Choice of cheap car hire in Montreal Airport
Visitors from Britain and Europe, in general, prefer slightly larger vehicles.
The best offers are frequently found in the compact SUV or intermediate SUV car classes when renting a car in Canada.
When choosing a car, the Ford Escape (Avis/Budget Canada) and Toyota RAV4 (Dollar/Thrifty/Alamo Canada) dominate this rental car size. Less popular, but also frequently found are the Nissan Qashqai (same as the Nissan Rogue Sport in the USA) and Hyundai Santa Fe.

Prices are slightly higher for SUV rentals in Canada than in the US. Cheapest SUV rental in Montreal-Trudeau Airport is usually available from around £310-£350 / €350-€400.
Much cheaper rental vehicles are available, however. If you can make do with a small passenger car with room for 4 and with some good luggage space left, booking a Chevrolet Spark will save you a lot of money. The boot will swallow an impressive (for such a small car) 314 liters.
The Korean produced Chevrolet Spark always has 5 doors
Prices for renting the newly modernized model Spark from Chevrolet start at around £230 per week of cheap Montreal Airport car rental. The cheapest cars for hire are often found with Dollar or Thrifty.
In the same class, but slightly more expensive and a little larger also, you can find the Kia Rio, which is in the same class as a Ford Fiesta. For 4 or 5 holiday makers with more than the absolute minimum of luggage, the Nissan Versa is a better choice. The Versa-prices at for instance Alamo or Thrifty Car Rental Montreal Airport are, frequently, almost the same as for the Chevrolet Spark, the Nissan Versa being a considerably larger vehicle in the ‘compact’ size; same class as the VW Golf.
If booking a Montreal rental car from the UK or from Europe, always chose a price comparison service like www.find-cheap-car-hire.co.uk. Rates are usually better (or much better) and you don’t have to worry about extra insurance. Excess insurance is always offered (it is optional) when booking online and, generally, much cheaper than if taking out this service at the counter in Canada.

Direct flights to Montreal from Britain
Being part of the French speaking Quebec province, Montreal has good links to all parts of the world including Asia, Africa and South America.
From Britain, British Airways and Air Canada fly directly to Montreal from London-Heathrow LHR. Air Transat operates a seasonal route from London-Gatwick LGW.
How to get to and from the airport?
Montreal-Trudeau Airport is situated in the Dorval area of Montreal on what is also referred to as the Island of Montreal (French: Île de Montréal). The distance to Downtown Montreal (city centre) is only 20 km or 12 miles.
The access to the airport is easy by either the Trans-Canada Highway, which is the longest road in Canada with a length of more than 7800 km. Close to the airport, this highway takes the name of Autoroute Felix LeClerc or Autoroute-40. Also close to the airport, and parallel to the Autoroute-40 runs the Autoroute-20 which is also known as the Autoroute du Souvenir.

The easy access by road is (mis)matched with the lack of direct train connections to Montréal Airport. The Canadian national railways: VIA Rail Canada do offer free shuttle bus from the nearest station which is Dorval. Plans for a new electrified train line to the airport from downtown Montreal are in the making.
You will find a range of regional shuttle and bus services from the airport, but since distances are huge in Canada, renting a car is very popular.
In the airport terminal, the following car rental companies can be found:
- Alamo cars for rent in Montreal
- Budget Car Rental Canada
- Thrifty Car Hire Quebec
