Prices on car hire are generally high in Norway, so if in luck you may be upgraded from a VW Polo or a Ford Fiesta to a VW Golf.
Please note that insurance excess (car damage or theft) on Norwegian car hire usually is expensive – typically in the region of £600-£800 in case you’re out of luck. On Full size, Premium and Luxury hire cars the damage excess are some times over £1000.
It is therefore worth considering the optional collision damage waiver which can be added whilst booking your car online for a low daily price.
Apart from collision damage the excess waiver also covers, loss of keys, glass damage, suspension damage, fuel contamination and tyre damage. Some of the aforementioned would typically not be covered under the car hire companies own standard insurance.
Insurance terms and conditions are available under each rental car when clicking ‘Rate details’ in the Cartrawler search engine.
Adding the collision damage waiver will cover any damage up to 3000 Euros. The additional insurance is added in Cartrawler after you’ve chosen your hire car. The insurance is underwritten by ‘Mondial’ who can be contacted at their UK offices.
Car hire prices in Norway usually doesn’t fluctuate that much depending on season if compared with holiday destinations such as Portugal, Italy and Spain, where prices are sometimes double in high season.
It is however possible that Trondheim and other smaller airports in Norway have got reduced availability on small hire cars, so make sure to pre book Norwegian car hire well ahead.
