Vatry Airport to Paris and Disneyland Resort – transportation from Châlons Vatry Airport
The fairly small airport of Châlons Vatry – XCR is marketed by one of its major carriers, Ryanair as Paris Vatry Airport, or even Paris Vatry Disney. Both names are rather misleading as the airport is located in a significant distance from the French capital and the amusement park alike. It is a common strategy of budget airlines to focus on small airports, where their operating costs are truly low, and advertise them as if serving major destination. The carrier’s appealing offers should, however, often be taken with a pinch of salt, as they may imply additional hassle with transfers. See Vatry Airport location map.
The transportation options between Vatry Airport and Paris/Disneyland resort are limited and even if, in the best option possible you have family or friends picking you up, you should count with at least 1h30min travel time from Vatry Airport to Disneyland and 2h to Paris. And that, with favourable traffic conditions.
Vatry Airport – not close to Paris!
The airport is located near the town and Vatry and close to Châlons-en-Champagne in the Marne department, east of Paris. The road distance from the airport to Paris city centre is approximately 100 miles. ‘Only’ 80 miles separate Vatry Airport from Disneyland Paris.
Those distance increase even more if you opt for the quickest route, via A4 motorway. The detour, although increases the distance, will most likely pay off in time economy.
The shortest route, by the N4 road takes you to Paris centre in around 2 hours (or more should you encounter roadworks and heavy traffic at the entrance to the city). You will need around 1h45m to get to EuroDisney via N4 / D231.
By choosing to travel between Vatry and Paris by the A4 motorway, be ready to have to cover some 112 miles to Disneyland and 137 miles to Paris (and pay tolls, as well). The journey time however, may be slightly shorter.
Vatry to Disneyland by bus – Vatry Shuttle suspended
Travellers on the way to Disney Resort Paris used to have at their disposal the so called ‘Vatry Bus – Vatry Shuttle’ service between the airport and Reims, Châlons-en-Champagne and Disney Paris. This service is, however, suspended.
Vatry Airport taxi
Taxis come in short supply at Vatry Airport. Only in the summer season one can assume that taxis will be awaiting the arriving passengers in front of the terminal. A situation changes drastically when the frequency of flights decreases. Phone numbers to taxi operators are provided in the arrivals hall, be prepare however for a long wait. It is not cheap either to go from Vatry to Paris by taxi, a fare of 200 euros is very likely. A better and cheaper solution is getting a taxi to Châlons-en-Champagne where there are more transportation options available.
Train from Châlons-en-Champagne to Paris
Vatry Airport is located approximately 16 miles from Châlons-en-Champagne which offers railway services to Paris Gare de l’Est: a conventional railway link directly from Châlons and a TGV high speed train via Gare Champagne/Ardenne in Reims. Travel time varies between an hour on a TGV train to around 1h40min on conventional train.
The TGV train from Champagne/Ardenne stops at Paris Marne la Vallée-Chessy station, located approximately 200 meters from the entrance to Disneyland Paris Resort.
Vatry Airport car hire
In late 2015, car hire services were not available directly at Vatry Airport. Several car rental offers were to be found, however, in Châlons-en-Champagne / Épernay area, from providers as Avis, Hertz and Thirfty as well as slightly further away, in Reims. Amongst Reims car hire companies were Enterprise, Sixt and Budget.
