  • La Seu, Palma’s Cathedral, known to be one of the largest buildings of the kind in Europe, with 121 meters of length and 55 meters in width. La Seu, designes in the Catalan Gothic style was built on a site of an Arab mosque. The restoration works in the beginning of the 20th century were conducted by Spain’s beloved Antoni Gaudi.
     
  • Almudaina Palace – originally build as an Arab fortress, the palace became an official Majorcan residence of the Spanish royal family in the 14th century, maintaining the same function up to present. In the summer months Almudaina Palace is used by King Juan Carlos I for official ceremonies and state functions. Almudaina is open for visitors all year long.
     
  • Castel de Bellver, a Gothic 14th century fortress is known mostly for its original circular design. Castel de Bellver (meaning ‘beautiful view’) is set on a hill and magnificent views of the Palma Bay are available from the castle towers. The castle is home to Majorca’s History Museum.
     
  • Banys Árabs are extremely well-preserved Roman bathhouses and today an oasis of tranquillity amid the hustle of the big city of Palma.

The ‘Spanish Village’ in the outskirts of Palma is an open-air museum of Spanish architecture. Very popular with the tourists, Poble Espanyol recreates in miniature the most famous buildings of Toledo, Cordoba, Granada and Madrid, as well as typical architectonic styles of different areas of Spain.

Palma de Mallorca has a comprehensive selection of museums. Amongst the most popular ones is Es Baluard Contemporary Art Museum with an exquisite collection of modern art, including many works by Miró. Interesting contemporary art exhibitions can also be seen in Fundacio La Caixa museum.

Palma de Mallorca beaches
In spite of the central location in the huge Palma Bay, the city of Palma de Mallorca doesn’t have its own beach. The closest beach resorts, however, are situated in slightly less than 4 miles east and west of Palma’s city centre.

The so called Palma Beach, Playa de Palma, is a two miles long beach, stretching between Can Pastilla and El Arenal beach resorts. Playa the Palma has excellent infrastructure for holidaymakers, with plenty of bars and restaurants, umbrellas and sun loungers rental as well as showers and toilets. The beach is easily accessible by car or public transportation, or simply on foot by the beachside promenade.
