Vilnius is also known as the Paris of eastern Europe due to it’s many open squares, impressive buildings and wide waterways running through the city. The capital of Lithuania, along with Latvia’s capital Riga and the city of Krakow in Poland, is ranked as one of the most beautiful cities in eastern Europe.

The airport in Vilnius is about 4 miles south of Vilnius and is the largest airport in Lithuania.
Vilnius International Airport – VNO is also known as Tarptautinis Vilniaus Oro Uostas in Lithuanian. The originally russian built airport from the 1950’s was extended in 2007 and a new modern terminal added to it.

It is often allowed to drive in neighbouring Poland as well. It is on the other hand often not possible to visit Russia or Belarus (where you would also need a visa) in a Lithuanian hire car. Driving and car hire conditions in Lithuania
The road network in Lithuania has improved greatly and there are usually no issues when travelling between the larger cities. Roads less travelled are however often below the normal European standard. Driving on these rough roads can be hard on the hire cars.
Remember to inspect your hire car for any damages when collecting in Vilnius. Although the excess is usually low on hire cars in Vilnius, you may find yourself in trouble due to a chipped windscreen, scratches, missing hub caps, damaged tyres etc.
