Gdansk Airport is located approx. 8 miles west of Gdansk city centre and about 15 miles south-west from Gdynia. The distance from the airport to Sopot, in a straight line, is only about 7 miles, but the existing road access requires an approx. 12 miles drive to get from Gdansk Airport to the most popular beach resort of Poland (Sopot).

Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport's official name honours the former Polish president, the leader of Solidarity and the Nobel prize laureate. However, locally, Gdansk Airport is known under its previous name, Gdansk-Rebiechowo.

The correct spelling of the airport names, respecting Polish diacritics, is: Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport, Port Lotniczy Gdańsk im. Lecha Wałęsy, or Lotnisko Gdańsk-Rębiechowo.
